“Angel Beats!” episode1 First Impression

Finally today that anime “Angel Beats!”(for short “AB”) which is much talked about has begun!! Jun Maeda who wrote many game stories which make player cry by moving story (“Kanon“, “Air“, “CLANNAD” and so on) writes all the script of “AB”. Will also “AB” make fans cry?

Lead character Otonashi has woken and lost his memories. He wonders where is he and what happened. A girl Holding her gun at the ready talks to him, “although you think probably too sudden, can you join to my team?”. She doesn’t pay attention to his confusing and talks in succession. Indeed, starting scene is where watcher can catch the world-view. The lead character has entered another world, there are two teams which turn against each other. And if they give in to the angel, their existens will disappear. However, we must pay attention that the outline of the world is just talked by her. Besides the lead character has lost his memories and the angel is the silent type. Those are just one-sided view.

Here, it is settled that persons? can’t die because of the physical fight. The angel seems a chef of a students’ association. There are moderately characters of comedy.

After explaining about the outline, story proceeds to the introduction of characters. The lead character of girls, Yuri is similar to Haruhi a little. Especially that is such point she carries conversations forward alone. But she has a lot of popularity and play a role of straight man against funny man of other members. Also laughable point comes. That is Takamatsu. What introduction is that in spite of glasses he is dumm! But there is something that worry me. Otonashi changes his mind too easily. Even if he is saying by the mouth careful, he is not skeptic either. I hope the credulous doesn’t lead to losing charm of the character.

the conversation in this evening scene is considerable. I tried putting it in order. First, there are many general persons in the world but if they follow the angel, they will disappear. And she call general persons not person but NPC(Non Player Character). But they reaction as same as everyone and she expects he can’t see through NPC. Besides NPC don’t glow old as same as Yuris. In short who are called by Yuri not person have only a gap where they fight against the Angel or not. And the Angel. Yuri did’t say the angel has selfconsciousenss or not. Moreover the angel speaks no information about the system of the world. When Otonashi asked about ferocity of the angel Yuri said also that “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, if we attack her.” Yuri did never refer to the angel’s voluntary ferocity. What is inportant is that the basis of the world is still a blank. Yuri deos’nt know anything about it because she doesn’t know postmortem and she “believe” in god. The angel, if she knows someting about it, doesn’t speak. But if I accept the words of characters there is the world after death and if they live submissvely there they can be reborn. But they, the front of denying death are who want to be reborn. Is this story about moratorium after death?

They do never die and the meaning of the battle has another meaning. The battle is just a means to buy time and remove position. At any rate, graphic is beautiful. And confusion of animation and music is good. Also the joke “I kill you” is too silly. I am looking forward to next ep2.

and so on. Ep.1 has no OPsong and not regular EDsong. And there is such rumor that Girls Dead Monster may play another song every episode. We will wait for next episode, expecting it.
